Nutrition Counseling: Why Personalized Care Matters More Than Ever

Nutrition counseling has never been more important as people navigate an overwhelming amount of health information online. In a recent interview with VoyageKC Magazine, I shared the journey behind founding Kendra’s Kustom Nutrition and why I believe personalized, evidence-based nutrition counseling can truly change lives.

After more than 16 years as a Registered Dietitian, I’ve worked in hospitals, intensive care units, outpatient clinics, diabetes care, and clinical leadership. Those experiences taught me that improving health isn’t just about giving someone a meal plan—it’s about understanding the whole person. Sleep, stress, movement, medical history, family life, and daily habits all influence long-term success, which is why my approach to nutrition counseling is individualized for every client.

One of the biggest reasons I started Kendra’s Kustom Nutrition was to improve access to care. Many private practices operate as self-pay only, making it difficult for individuals and families to receive ongoing nutrition support. I intentionally became credentialed with most major insurance plans, Kansas Medicaid, and Medicare because I believe high-quality nutrition counseling should be accessible to everyone—not just those who can afford to pay out of pocket.

My practice also combines clinical expertise with practical lifestyle coaching. Whether someone is managing diabetes, heart disease, disordered eating, weight concerns, or taking GLP-1 medications, my goal is to provide realistic strategies that fit their lifestyle instead of promoting restrictive diets or quick fixes. Lasting health comes from sustainable habits, not perfection.

The recent VoyageKC feature highlights the experiences that shaped my practice, from working in critical care to opening a private practice focused on collaboration, education, and compassionate care. It also shares why I continue to believe that every client deserves time to ask questions, feel heard, and receive recommendations based on science—not social media trends.

My mission is to help every client develop realistic habits that improve both their health and their quality of life.
