Pediatric Binge Eating Disorder (BED)/Bulimia Nervosa
Child & Teen Binge Eating Disorder (BED) / Bulimia Nervosa
Has your child or teenager's relationship with food become increasingly secretive, overwhelming, or emotionally distressing?
Maybe you've noticed episodes of eating unusually large amounts of food, hiding food wrappers, sneaking food, eating in secret, or feeling intense guilt and shame after eating. Perhaps your child has started restricting food during the day, exercising excessively, or you suspect they may be vomiting or using other unhealthy behaviors to "make up" for eating. Watching your child struggle can leave you feeling frightened, confused, and unsure how to help.
If this sounds familiar, I want you to know you're not alone—and neither is your child.
Binge Eating Disorder (BED) and Bulimia Nervosa are serious eating disorders that involve far more than food alone. These illnesses are often driven by complex emotional, biological, psychological, and environmental factors. Many children and teens feel trapped in a cycle of restriction, binge eating, guilt, shame, and attempts to regain control. Recovery is possible, but it requires compassionate, evidence-based care—not judgment or willpower.
At Kendra's Kustom Nutrition, my goal isn't to place your child on another diet or focus solely on weight. Instead, I help children and teens rebuild trust with food, reduce disordered eating behaviors, and develop a healthier relationship with eating while supporting both their physical and emotional well-being. Every child's journey is unique, so treatment is always individualized to meet their specific needs and stage of recovery.
Working with individuals experiencing Binge Eating Disorder and Bulimia Nervosa has become one of the primary focuses of my practice and is the most common eating disorder I treat. Over the years, I've had the privilege of helping many adolescents and adults navigate recovery using compassionate, evidence-based nutrition counseling. My goal is to create a safe, judgment-free environment where your child feels heard, supported, and empowered while helping your family better understand the recovery process.
Together, we may work on:
- Reducing binge eating episodes and compensatory behaviors
- Establishing consistent, balanced meal and snack patterns
- Breaking the cycle of restriction, bingeing, and guilt
- Challenging food rules and all-or-nothing thinking
- Reducing fear, shame, and anxiety surrounding food
- Improving body image and self-esteem
- Identifying emotional triggers and developing healthy coping strategies
- Correcting nutrient deficiencies and supporting overall health
- Helping parents confidently support recovery at home
Because eating disorders affect both physical and mental health, nutrition counseling is only one part of comprehensive treatment. When appropriate, I'm happy to review laboratory results and collaborate with your child's pediatrician, therapist, psychologist, psychiatrist, primary care provider, or other members of their healthcare team to ensure everyone is working toward the same recovery goals.
I also understand that eating disorders affect the entire family. Parents often feel helpless, scared, frustrated, or unsure of what to say or do. My goal is to provide education, encouragement, and practical guidance that helps reduce conflict around food while giving your family the tools needed to support recovery with confidence and compassion.
Recovery is rarely a straight line, and setbacks don't mean failure. With the right treatment team, consistency, and support, children and teens can learn to trust their bodies again, build a healthier relationship with food, and experience lasting recovery.
Whether your child has recently begun struggling with binge eating or bulimia or has been living with these behaviors for years, they deserve compassionate, individualized care that addresses the whole person—not just the symptoms. Together, we'll build a personalized nutrition plan that supports healing, restores trust in food, and helps your child move toward a healthier, more fulfilling future.
